So you need a screen...
Here are some plants that will do good in your part of the state. They will screen the neighbors pretty good and quicker than most other plants. How fast? It mostly depends on how big they are when you plant them, and how much water they get.
-Hardy Pink or Hardy Red Oleanders- these are poisonous so check with your vet before you plant them in your pasture. But, the do make a great screen and will flower during the summer. There are many other varieties but they won't get as big as these varieties.
-Arborvitae- some people call it the Cemetery tree because you often see them planted there. It will get about 15' tall and 8' wide.
-Waxleaf Ligustrum- a common plant that will get about 10' tall and 10' wide. After they get big you might need to shear the edges once a year.
-Running Bamboo-this will be a good screen, usually about 8'-10' tall and after it's established it will start to spout up all over. It is usually a nuisance to home owner and neighbors...but it makes a good barrier. Make sure you want this before you plant it, because it's hard to get rid of.
-Loquat-also called a Japanese Plum. It's a low growing tree with big leaves. It will have a small, edible fruit most years. The leaves are big (6"-10" long).
-Sour Orange- most orange trees are grafted on a hardy root stock. One of the most common is called Flying Dragon. If the root stock is not grafted it will grow into a thorny tree with drooping branches that might get 15' tall and 12' wide. It will have a fragrant flower in the spring and then produce a very sour fruit.
