Like many old churches, Porter's has lost many members over the last 50 years. But, they still want the front door to give members and guest a welcome and warm feeling when they arrive. He's trying to spruce up their landscape, especially at the front door and side door
. Dwarf Yaupon Holly is probably the most commonly used dwarf shrub used from Texas to North Carolina. Trimming it once a year you can keep it about 24". You can trim it so it keeps it's individual shape, like the first 2 pictures, or let it grow together like those in photo on the right.
Other plants that do well in sun or shade are
-Variegated Flax Lily
-Purple Heart Wandering Jew
-Foxtail Fern
-Big Blue Liriope is a great plant that is used for borders
-Glossy Abelia can be used as a shrub in partial shade
-Gulf Stream Nandina can also be used in partial shade or full sun.
In many landscapes you will find large rocks or boulders, like the first photo. You can get them in many sizes and shapes a local landscape supply yards, like the next two photos.
Other common shrubs that will do good in sunny areas of the landscapes are
-Silverberry Elaeagnus
-Dwarf Burford Holly
-Indian Hawothorn
-Viburnum suspensum does good in sun or shade.
-Asiatic Jasmine is a great ground cover for sun or shade.
-Bicolor Iris is an evergreen perennial that blooms throughout the growing season.
